How to Get T-Rex in Grow a Garden

buy Grow A Garden pets

The T-Rex is a Divine-tier pet introduced in the Prehistoric Update on July 5, 2025. It could only be obtained during the limited-time Prehistoric Event, making it one of the rarest pets in Grow a Garden. With its unique ability to manipulate mutations across your crops, the T-Rex quickly became a fan-favorite for both collectors and competitive players.

This guide will explain in detail how to obtain the T-Rex, how its ability works, and what makes it different from other pets in the game.

The T-Rex is visually striking and stands out among other pets:

  • It has a light-green body with a light-brown underbelly.
  • It is larger than the player, towering over most other pets.
  • It features a special holding animation: both of the player’s arms cradle the T-Rex when carried.
  • This unique animation is also shared with other pets hatched from the Dinosaur Egg, Primal Egg, and Zen Egg.

This design choice emphasizes its dominance as the “Apex Predator” among dinosaur pets.

If you’re a fan of rare companions and unique gameplay mechanics, the T-Rex stands as one of the most iconic pets in Grow a Garden. While it may no longer be obtainable after the Prehistoric Event, new opportunities and updates often bring exciting pets into the game. Whether you’re hunting for dinosaurs or exploring other powerful companions, don’t forget to check future events and marketplaces where you can buy Grow a Garden pets to expand your collection.

Traits & Ability

The T-Rex has one of the most distinctive passive abilities in the game:

Apex Predator

  • Every ~20 minutes, the T-Rex eats a random mutation from one fruit in the player’s garden.
  • After devouring the mutation, it roars and spreads that mutation to ~3 other random fruits in the garden.
  • The mutation is removed from the original fruit after it’s eaten.
  • Protection for favorited fruits: If you mark a fruit as favorite, the T-Rex will not consume its mutation (unless it’s the only fruit left in the garden).
  • The T-Rex does not devour or spread Gold or Rainbow variants.
  • Occasionally, it will apply the same mutation multiple times (2–5 times) to a single fruit, which can lead to powerful stacking effects.

This ability makes the T-Rex an incredibly valuable asset for mutation-based strategies in Grow a Garden.

How to Get a Dinosaur Egg

The T-Rex can only be hatched from the Dinosaur Egg, which was available exclusively during the Prehistoric Event. There were two primary methods to obtain a Dinosaur Egg:

1. Trading Pets with Graham (Dinosaur Egg NPC)

  • Players could give a pet to Graham, the Dinosaur Egg NPC.
  • In return, Graham might give a Dinosaur Egg, or in rarer cases, a dinosaur pet directly.
  • The rarity of the pet you trade influences the outcome:
    • Common pets are more likely to give eggs.
    • Rare pets increase the chance of getting a dinosaur pet immediately.
  • The process takes 1 real-time hour to complete.
  • Important: You permanently lose the pet you give to Graham.

2. Completing Dino Quests for Blaire (Prehistoric Quest NPC)

  • Blaire offered special Dino Quests during the event.
  • For every set of three quests completed, players would receive:
    • 1 Ancient Seed Pack
    • 1 Dinosaur Egg
    • 1 Dino Crate
  • This method was more reliable for players who didn’t want to risk losing pets.

Hatch Chance and Rarity

Even if you managed to get a Dinosaur Egg, the chances of hatching a T-Rex were extremely low:

  • Hatch Chance of T-Rex: 0.5%
  • Other Possible Hatchlings: Raptors, Triceratops, and Brontosaurus (each with higher hatch rates).
  • The T-Rex was the only Divine pet in the Dinosaur Egg, making it even rarer than the Legendary dinosaurs.

This means most players would hatch multiple eggs without ever seeing a T-Rex.

What Does the T-Rex Do in Grow a Garden?

Unlike other pets, which mainly boost growth speed, yield, or quality, the T-Rex actively changes your crops. Its mutation-spreading mechanic can:

  • Accelerate mutation farming by duplicating rare mutations.
  • Create mutation chains across multiple fruits.
  • Offer unique synergies with plants that benefit from high mutation diversity.

This makes it a pet that rewards careful garden planning. Players who manage their favorited fruits and mutation layout effectively can gain massive advantages.

Trivia

  • Like all Dinosaur Egg pets, the T-Rex cannot be placed into the DNA Machine.
  • If every fruit in the garden is favorited, the T-Rex may ignore restrictions and devour uncontrollably.
  • Sometimes the T-Rex fails to spread mutations if all fruits already share the same one.
  • The T-Rex’s hunger level of 60,000 is among the highest in the game, reflecting its size and power.

The T-Rex remains one of the most legendary and rare pets in Grow a Garden. Its limited availability, combined with its incredibly low hatch chance, made it a symbol of prestige for players lucky enough to obtain one. Beyond rarity, its Apex Predator ability makes it one of the most impactful pets for players who focus on mutation-based gardening strategies.
